The Story of November '01

The November '01 tourney has come to a close. We came, we saw, we blew a battery in our first match.

It was a pretty sad match overall. We shot out of the starting square. By the time our battery gave out, our opponent, Deus Ex Machina, had already thrown a drive chain and could only move in circles. We coasted to a stop about 6 inches from him. He spun around 3 times and gave us a few love taps. But most importantly, he could move, we could not, so he got a TKO. Needless to say, Team GT and ASiR won't be getting any TV time this season.

We'll be back and with an important lesson learned. Surplus sucks.

November '01 Sponsors.

The Thomas Edison Center for Technology Comercialization (TECTC) put up ASiR's entry fee. Many Thanks!

AnimEigo made a cash donaion. (We do accept PayPal!)

Toledo bussinessman Steve Papadimus also made a cash donation.

Thank you for all the support.

Close-up of the pneumatics.

Arm close-up.

BattleBots, A family affair.

Main Drive Motors:

I have about 10 of these ($14.95).

Motor Controller Prototype:

I owe it all to an organized workshop.

Schematics:

Speed Control Schematic (Updated 2-25-01)

DC-DC Converter Board (provides gate drive independant of dips in battery voltage, and floating voltage for high-side) (new 2-25-01)

Accelerated Ramp design (New as of 2-9-01, updated 4/6/01)

This is the current concept, though I'm planning on lowering the angle of the ramp and making the righting arm so it is capable of pinning the opponent over the belt. The belt will be covered in 50 grit sandpaper, hopefully grinding flat spots in the opponents' wheels.

Original inverted lawnmower design
