About Blender. . .

Note: They say, "you get what you pay for". Well, we paid and we got. The users of this program chipped in and raised the 100,000 Euros NaN's investors wanted. And Now Blender is free, both "Beer and Speech".

The Graphics on this site (with one exception) were done with Blender. Blender is a great piece of software. It allows you to create fantastic still and animated images (what they call "linear creations"). But wait, there's a twist...

2112

- a rock operetta by Rush

Megadon City

To escape the expansive gray of Megadon City, Anonymous, a young Temple Musician, wanders off the approved path in the State run Nature Park, and finds a wondrous gift from the past, carefully preserved in a cave...

A Guitar.

How strange and wonderful a device this is. How different it is from the computer generated Temple music... Everyone could be free to make their own music. What joy it could bring to our world. The Priests should know about this discovery, he thinks.

But the Priests already know of of these "guitars", and destroy Anonymous's hopes as the 'silly whim' from the past is plucked from his hands and ground to splinters beneath the Head Priest's feet.

The Priests stage during "Temples of Syrinx" (500k MPEG-1).

That night, in a restless sleep, Anon. is confronted by a 'dream'. He was lead by a young Oracle of the elder race, a group of rebels that escaped the doomed Lunar bases when the Solar Federation's Priests took control. The Oracle showed him their new world - a world where beauty and individuality are the rule. A world where they learn and grow - but are always waiting for a signal. A signal that the time is right to return to their homeland.

Faced with the knowledge of this beautiful world, Anon. can no longer face the cold gray of Megadon - and the cold life lead by the Solar Federation's Priests. He returns to the cave where he found the guitar. With his soul as empty as the guitar case he had left behind, he casts himself off the cliff.

Lightyears away, a young Oracle, is confronted by a vision of a musician who commits suicide because his dreams of living in a world of beauty and hope are crushed.

This is the signal, the Oracle thinks. The time to return and reclaim our homeland has come. It is time to tear down the Temples of the Solar Federation...

The Ice Tug's Bridge

Scenes from "Charlie's Retirement".

CR is a short story I wrote a few years back. A friend of mine and I are trying to do an animation of it. It's a real experiment, since he uses LightWave. We're trying to divide the scenes up in a way so the differences in rendering aren't noticeable. I got the Bridge.

This is my Bridge BridgeFixed.mpg (550k)

This was my Bridge on drugs BridgeArt.mpg (607k) Note the strobing (in the vents) due to broken normal maps. This was caused by having "filter" set WAY too low (0.15).

This is the latest bridge shot - NewBridge.mpg (1.04MB). I reworked the texture maps on the walls completely at a much higher res. I was still seeing some strobing at high values of 'norm', so I reduced it. I think the biggest problem is the vents, so I'm going to model them, and increase the wall normal for the conduits. I think I've noticed problems in other areas where a smooth normal meets a sudden change (note the bottom lip of the consoles). I think this goes away if I turn off "set smooth" for the flat part of the console. The autosmooth function of version 1.8 does wonders for this, too.

Recent Work:
Redtail The Pirate. Squirels are always running aroung burrying things, so we figure they must have been pirates in a previous life. Arrrr!

Here's a facal animation test (899k mpeg).

Sureal. Nothing more to say.
Character animation:
Humorous (esp. if you know where it comes from). Look here for details Click pic for larger image.
Character animation:
Three Legged Walker (Click for Mpeg) (536k)
Robotic Arms (Click for Mpeg) (5.7M)
Here's some "flying logo" stuff I've done. It ranges from the complex:
This is the Bouncing Ball Productions Promo trailer ball2.mpg (401k) BBP Logo
To the not so complex:
a silly spinning logo

A cliche' spinning logo for the SGBC. I was too embarrassed to put it on the main page. (I can do flaming logos too, but why?). sg.mpg(237K)

And stuff in between:
This is a logo for a mad scientist club I belong in (note I did not say "to") gtlogo.mpg (133K) and gtbiglogo.mpg (506k) ...and the rocket's red glare. . .
First Unitarian Church A logo for my church. uu.mpg (300K)
This was my attempt at the "Digital Production" contest. Though I got a fair walk cycle going, I didn't have a c-key so didn't have the s-mesh, relative editing, or relative vertex key tools, that this task really needed, especially on the face. So here's Sgt. Pepperoni's dopey brother, Private Hal E. Peeno. pep.mpg (148K) Sgt. Pepperoni's Hot's Club Band
