[About Soylent Green the Movie] [About the Novel it was based on] [About Soylent Green the Rock Band]
Yes, being the nut I am, I find myself drawn to Robotic Combat. So check out ASiR, my Bot. I hope to enter him in the upcoming tournament. Check out the BattleBots page for even more cool stuff.
I came home the other day to a message on my machine, telling me that the National Republican Congressional Committee was giving me a "National Leadership Award", and that I should call this 1-800 number to discuss a press release.
I guess I am technically a Republican, in that I won't vote in the incumbant party's primary (so I guess in 3 year's I'll be a Democrat, again), but other than that, I didn't particularly feel leaderly, or political...
I suspected a scam, or at least a request for money. I was right. They played a recorded message by Rep. Tom DeLay, and later, one of his aids asked for a one time donation of $350. This would buy me an honorary membership on the Republican Business Advisory Committee and my press release. I wish I had the extra cash, I can see the press release now:
The Soylent Green Biscuit Company is proud to be a member of the Republican National Business Advisory Committee. Being poised to to take a leading role in the staple foods industry by 2022, the SGBC recognizes the importance of American business and the need to relax overly stringent Government regulations. As resources become scarcer in the new century, American businesses. like the SGBC should be allowed to decide on the efficient distribution of these resources, not have their allocation inefficiently dictated by a remote Government agency, like the FDA. We proudly support Rep. DeLay's and the National Republican Congressional Committee's efforts in leading us toward Soylent Green's vision of the future.
I assumed it was a horrible exaggeration, but maybe the Republicans really do want to "eat the poor".
Make Room! Make Room! is the 1966 novel by Harry Harrison (author of The Stainless Steel Rat series - also soon to go to the Big Screen!). It was a rough begining point for the screenplay for "Soylent Green".
Well, all my rock n' roll hero's are going bald, so I don't know much about this Dutch, alternative 90's band, but here's a few links about them anyway.
